Hi, everyone, this is my 1st post...

As the title says, the tumble dryer function of the machine doesn't work. The drum rotates and the fan & pump (to the condenser?) run, but the element doesn't get hot. There is no voltage at its terminals either. I think I've identified the thermostats (if they are the other parts connected by wires on the aluminium housing that the heating element sits in) and there is no voltage across them either. The heating element has a resistance of 39 Ohms. Can anyone suggest what actually might be causing this fault, & what would rectify it?
Thanks, Bren

There is one or more thermal fuse fitted to these machines. This is a small black cube with 2 spade terminals. If you have a multimeter you can take one of the wires off this device and check if it is open circuit using a resistance reading.

Thanks for the reply Fido.
There are 2 small black boxes with spade connectors on the aluminium 'ducting' that houses the heating element - these ones? They both have zero resistance & voltage. Should they? Or do you mean the larger boxes at the back by the water inlet (hot & cold)? BTW the back of the machine is live (& I didn't find this out with a multimeter). Between the back plate & the heating element, as well as various other components, there is mains voltage. Might this be the cause of the element not heating? Or would this be a seperate issue? It's only the dryer element that doesn't heat - everything else works fine.

Yes I did meen the ones on the metal ducting. When doing resistance readings you should unplug the machine as you might damage your meter (or worse) if you try to take readings off live circuits. In addition to the thermal fuses there will be a control thermostat which can be tested the same way. Other than that there could be an internal break in one of the wires for the heater circuitry or a fault in the dryer timer.
