Hello to everyone on the forum I'm new here.

Bought the above dryer very cheap off eBay as spares or repairs. The lady described the problem of a snapped belt so I thought great stuff!

The problem is when you turn it on you can hear the motor trying to start but only moving the drum by half an inch in about 3 second try's. Thought ok might be the motor run capacitor do I removed the front and replaced but it still has the same problem?? I removed the belt from the motor and unbolted the motor and started up the machine the motor spins freely but has no guts I can basically hold the main spindle with little effort. Is this a dud motor? I've looked over it also and can find no obvious places to change the brushes??

Any help would be great. Thanks

Its a dud motor Jim....sometimes the capacitors are only there to prevent TV interference anyway.

Thanks for the reply. Can these motors be repaired? I'm guessing the motors are near impossible to find and hideously expensive? Could I find a similar motor that runs at the same speed and power and weld it into place? Thanks

You're asking a lot there Jim - all motors can be rewound but certainly not cost effectively in this case.....go for ebay or espares and see whats around.
Fixing non standard motors is likely to give belt alignment issues, as well as differing electrical connections - not worth the hassle.

Thanks. So I've done some digging and I can buy a second hand motor for £39 and a new one including a new belt and tensioners for £69 including delivery. Not sure which to go with and I'll explain why. I have removed the motor from the machine and removed the rotor from inside and there was some metal deposits on the rotor which I cleaned off with a Stanley blade and cleaned the whole assembly with electrical cleaner spray. I then found an old stereo plug lead, replaced the fuse, chopped the end off and fitted female crimp terminals to the end. I re-assembled the motor and connected the power supply, flicked the switch and off it went!! Motor was going at full speed which was quite strong but still able to stop but needed more force. Thought great I've fixed it!! So fitted it back in the machine and it's still the same! Ahhhh but then I got thinking why does the program only turn the motor in bursts of say 3 seconds?? Surely it needs to be running all the time as the elements are heating at the same time? So now my mind is wondering that the dryer does these bursts to weigh the load while it's filling with water?? (I had no supply at the time of testing) then it knows how much power to put to the motor? Or is the motor just rubbish? Thanks
