Hoover performa 1100 wahser/dryer does not start dry cycle?

I have inherited a hoover performa 1100 washer/dryer which does not start the dryer cycle. The wshing machine runs programs ok, although sometimes you do have to push on the door to start it off. I have had only one dry cycle start ok but since then, nothing. I have check the reset switch on the thermostats, but I dont think it's that. You set the time and and heat and turn it on but it just sits there and does nothing. Can anyone help?
