Hi,
I have a Hoover Quattro AS116 which has been relatively trouble free for many years.
On Thursday evening, it had been chugging away with a wash of 3 denim jeans, when almost at the end of the spin cycle, it gave a loud "thump/bang" as it went to high speed. It continued spinning with a higher than normal sound level, and a fine white mist/smoke stared to appear from the soap tray area. On stopping the machine and opening the door, a cloud of the white mist/smoke appeared from the drum, although the machine did not feel hot.
Machine was switched off and disconnected.
I didn't have a chance to investigate until Saturday morning, when I removed the backplate and inspected inside , all seemed normal, with no trace of overheating. I tried a run of the spin cycle with no load and that seemed fine, with perhaps a slight squeak on drum reversal. Then tried a wash cycle with a light load, and again near the end of the cycle as the drum goes to high speed the noise increases and the mist/smoke appears.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? I suspect that a bearing has failed and given the cost of a new drum, I've convinced the better half that it may be time for a new machine.
Any help appreciated.
