It is easy enough. Unplug the machine, remove the back panel, take off the belt, unscrew the motor from the outer drum and lift it out of the machine. If the wires are too short to move the motor to where you want you will have to unplug the connections. Unscrew the 2 plastic blocks which contain the brushes. You can then see how much carbon is remaining. When fully worn there will be about 6mm carbon protruding from the brass sleeve inside the plastic block.
