Horizontal cable run

Hi can anyone help .I have a wall light on one side of the room .fed from a mains socket to a fused switch.i want to add a wall light on the other side of the wall.can I run the cable horizontal from the first lamp to the new lamp is this a permitted zone and

Assuming you mean on the other side of the room, then -

no, you cannot go across the width of a wall with no light on it except within 150mm. of the ceiling.

So, you will have to go vertically up from existing light, around within 150mm. of ceiling, then vertically down to new light.

1500mm = 1.5m. Perhaps you mean 1500x10^-1 mm ?

I've read this, and read it again.

And would say yes.

If the cable is horizontal and in line with the wall lights, then that's fine.

You couldn't have a concealed cable more than 150mm from the ceiling where there is no wall light.

But what you have described sounds ok to me.

"1500mm from the ceiling" This is why I dislike using the metric system. It is all to easy to type one to many or one too few zeros, whereas if we were still using the Imperial system, you would soon notice if you typed 60 inches when you meant 6. Remember, they put a man on the moon using yards, feet and inches, and pounds and stones!

Just to clarify it's the same wall which has one wall light.i want to add another light at the same height about 3 metres away

Yes you can, but you need to make sure the depth dont structurly weaken the wall, its more common to go up into the void across and down again, but not always possible

Yes but can't get to the void as fitted wardrobes are in the way.will only go deep enough to bury the cable

You are allowed 1/6th of the wall leaf thickness to meet structural requirements

Yes should be ok I think it's a brickwall with plasterboard surface.so the plasterboard should be deep enough to bury the cable
