i have an integrated washing machine, with only 1 hose (cold) going into it. is it more efficient to add another hose (hot) or doesn't it really matter?
Not an expert but some modern machines only have a cold fill, such as dishwashers the amount of water used is minimal. Washing machines using low temperature settings, the water from your hot pipes might be to hot for these programmes. It is probably more economical to heat from washers own heater. Your washer might not have a hot fill fitting.
Strangely enough the UK appears to be the only country in Europe that still wants hot and cold fill machines. Most, not all, new machines are now being supplied cold fill only.
By the time the hot water gets from your boiler to the washing machine it's probably had enough intake of "hot" water. It's actually more efficient and cost effective for it to heat the cold water it takes in.
New machines use a lot less water than older ones and this is why they take so much longer to wash. Less water, more time = similar wash results.
