..so I didn't think, etc.

Is there a trick to get the heat stain out of the wood? This is below the varnish finish - so doesnt seem obvious to me at the mo.

Can anyone advise?

No idea how it does it, but it works.
No idea if you can still buy it, my little tube is at least 30 years old when I come to work it out
But it still works.

not sure what you mean by 'ducal' but i do know a way of getting heat rings out of varnished or french polished wood.

mix some cigar ash with water to a thick paste and smear it on the ring, it works a bit like a stain - will make it almost invisible. then if the polish is damaged use a little wax just over the affected part, let it dry a bit and then polish it. the ash must be from a cigar - ive only tried it with fat cigars - cigarette ash doesn't work.

sounds weird but it really does work

fag ash and olive oil will do the trick mixwd into a paste

Thanks for the advice. Very interesting idea.......

Please see below for the degree of <ahem> success  I had with the cigar ash and (olive) oil approach. These photos were taken after the application. The improvement is unfortunately nothing.

I would be grateful for any further suggestions. I suspect the varnish layer is prevent the stain having any effect - but perhaps my application technique is not suitable? Any ideas welcome

(I havent found any web references to Topps RingAway.)

David P - Ducal is(was) a furniture range manufactured in Andover, before they went bust, that is. Style pretty much as the photos, as I recall - apart from the heat stain that is.

The coaster near to the stain is the one I *should* have used
