Hot fill - Y splitter or blanking plate?

Hi,

I've just bought a new-old washer which needs a hot and cold fill (AEG Lavamat 61000) - I only have a cold fill connection under my sink.

Now I know you can buy a Y-splitter valve (but I've tried to use these before and they just leak everywhere!), the other option is to buy a blanking plate to blank off the hot fill altogether - should I just do this? Or is it a bad idea? I really don't like the idea of using a splitter as it will be pretty awkward to get it on with the way my pipes are laid out.

Cheers.
