Hi

I have an Ideal FF230 boiler which is controlled by a lifestyle LP241 control panel. I have a problem where the boiler fires up when the hot water is set to on, but when I put the CH to on and turn the room thermostat up nothing happens. I have tried replacing the room thermostat but still no heating.

I have recently had the copper hot water cylinder replaced in the airing cuboard in the bedroom, could something have been knocked or turned off in there to prevent the boiler firing up for heating?

Thanks in advance.

Motorised valve stuck. Manually move the lever to open and heating will work. Depending on valve type either replace head or complete valve.

Doing that will only give you warm rads while the hot water is heating. The MAN lever doesn't move the valve far enough open to turn the boiler on.

<<First latch the lever at the MAN position, then >>
Turn the cylinder stat UP and the boiler stat DOWN and the boiler will stay on trying to heat the HW- making the rads hot.

Thank you both very much for your replies. I did try moving the black lever across to the right but it just slowly moved back. At the minute the manual lever is across to the left. Will I need to wedge the lever over to the right turn the cylinder thermo up and the boiler thermo down?

I was thinking that the problem must be electrical and it might be PCB on the boiler. Always thinking the worse now given the boiler is almost 9 years old and we had to get the hot water cylinder replaced last month.

Thanks again.

Get the plumber who changed the cylinder back - he knows your system now?

Thanks to all who have replied. Would a stuck/faulty motorised valve stop the boiler from firing up, as when the hot water is off and I turn the heating on nothing happens, the boiler does NOT ignite. If the motorised valve was faulty wouldn't the boiler light but the water would just get routed to the water cylinder? Or does the motorised valve have some control of the boiler in terms of starting up the boiler?

The boiler and pump get there power from a microswitch within the motorised valve which makes contact when the valve powers open so if the valve is faulty the boiler cant work.

Thanks to all who replied. So the motorised valve in question is a Drayton (model 679H340-30LO). Can I just go out and buy another motor or does the whole valve assembly need to be replaced?

Sorry I missed out a vital bit in my last post - now edited.

I don't recognse the number, most all Drayton valves start with a T or Z.

If yours is an oddball you may be able to change just the motor in the head, available from Wickes at £15 or so, or change the whole valve, possibly requiring a rewire.

Thanks very much to all who replied. Bought a new synchron motor from Wickes (£15) and it now works fine.

Thanks again.
