Why does my hot water only heat up when the heating is turned on? I have an old gloworm gas boiler?

where is divertor vlve and how do i know if it is stuck? Is that the actuator?

We are having to assume that the system is fully pumped with either a 3 port valve, or 2 2 port valves. If so the ch valve/head will be faulty or the 3 port head needs changing.

It may not be.

How many pipes come from the boiler 2 or 4 .
If its 4 you have gravity system and the first thing to check is the header tank in the loft to make sure it has water in it and the ball valve has not stuck.

If 2 pipes then you have a fully pumped system and its probably a faulty motorised valve

If the header tank was empry (ball valve scaled etc and stuck up) then he wouldnt have any heating either though would he?!
