hi , i need help with a heating problem , ill try to describe as much as poss but im totally useles when it comes to plumbing!!

ok , i have always used my emmersion heater for my hot water , but it has now packed up - i would guess its the heater - or the therostat ( i cant get a 18 " one anywhere in my area - all out of stock )

so as that has packed in , i decided to try my boiler to get hot water (back boiler )
i slide the swich on the control to constant hot water but it heated my radiators and not the water ??? am i doing something wrong or could i need the system repairing ? also im not sure if this has anything to do with it but on cold nights i noticed that i get steam from the chimmeny and also from another place on the roof ? is that normal ??

thank you for your help !!

steam from top of chimney when its cold is normal

however steam from roof could mean a leaking flue which is extremely dangerous TURN IT OFF and get it checked by a corgi engineer[/b]

hi regarding the steam from the chimmney, ( the main 1 ) the other steamfrom the roof is from a small outlet type chimmney . so its not just leaking out . although no other houses in my area seem to have this ??? im just worried because the previous owner of this house was a d.i.y bodger - ive had nothing but trouble rectifying his cockups !!

all open flues need checking regularly.

anything untoward should be checked-after your first post i would still say turn it of and get it checked
