Hi all I'm new to this site and after some advice. Came home to a leak from cold water tank in the loft. Was leaking from the hole at the top for the overflow pipe. I have fitted a new float which has lowered the level by an inch which has solved the leak. I've also extended the pipe for the pipe to take water to the hot water cylinder. Everything seemed ok but now not getting enough hot water to fill a bath. It's hot for a while but then goes cold. Any advice would be appreciated

What temperature is the cylinder stat set at ?
How long does the boiler run to heat cylinder water ?
Is your loft tank overflowing ?

It's set at 65. Not sure of how long the boiler runs for to be honest sorry. No it's not overflowing it now stops around an inch below the overflow pipe

Are your bath taps two separate taps ,or a mixer ?
Are other taps ok ?
You are either not heating a sufficient amount of hot water, or cold water is mixing in with hot somewhere.

It's a mixer tap with shower. Other taps are fine. The bath gets red hot but just not enough hot water to fill it. Gets around a quarter full then goes cold. Was one until this little leak. Would it have something to do with the cold water tank level been an inch lower ? Just seems very strange as nothing else has changed

No ,the header tank level would have zero effect on how much hot water is stored. Something has changed if you previously had a full baths worth of hot water stored ,and now only a quarters worth.
Could there be a leak on the hot water distribution pipework ,or a hot tap left running somewhere ?

There's isn't any taps left on anywhere. I'm not sure about a leak as the boiler doesn't kick in for hot water until I been running the taps for a bit. Could the cylinder have air in it do you think which may stop it filling up all the way.

Definitely not a problem with air in the cylinder. Do you have a timer or programmer that turns on cylinder heating for a certain time / period ?

No I just have the hot water on constant on the program so comes on when needed. Thanks very much for all your help.

I'll have to do it when I get home in the morning as at work at the moment. Do you mean temp on the cylinder by stats. Sorry not very clued up

Stat = thermostat ! The actual position that the thermostat sits in place on the cylinder would be interesting.
