Hotpoint 9934 washer/dryer

My Hotpoint washer sticks and overheats on all programs except quickwash (6). Have changed the module, and fitted new thermistor. (Rubbishy push-in connectors on replacement thermistor, but seem to make adequate contact) Still overheating! Anyone got any ideas? Thanks..

I think on these machines the heating is controlled by switching the timer to a non heating segment rather than directly switching the heater element. It could therefore be a mechanical fault such as stripped gear teeth in the timer. This is a case where the DIY approach can work out more costly than paying a repair man to do the diagnosis and just replace the faulty part.
