approx 5 years old, noticed recently after a wash that there is water in the conditioner dispenser, the conditioner has gone, clothes seem to be washed ok, more annoying than anything that i have to pull the drawer out and clean after every wash but also concerned it's the beginning of another problem

Nothing serious. The syphon is blocked. Pull out the drawer, take the conditioner syphon apart and give it a really good clean.
