Hotpoint Aquarius WF440 washing machine - won't start

Just back from holiday and Hotpoint Aquarius WF440 washer won't start. On any programme I can hear it very briefly letting water in. It then stops and nothing happens, although the wash light stays on. I've cleaned out the drain filter but no difference and there are no warning lights flashing.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Check motor brushes poss worn.
