I've read through a lot of posts for similar problems but not sure whether the problem is with the brushes or something else. It sounds like it is trying to spin but not rotating and is currently 1/4 full of water. Any ideas
when you say spin do you mean the final spin? in which case it could be a draining fault. or do you mean that it doesn't rotate at all in which case if it's making all the noises it could just be the belt off.
if the belt is off then there would normally be a reason, like badly worn drum bearings.
Thanks for the reply, last night I checked and the belt is fine, it seems to go through the actual wash cycle with the drum rotating with no problems but when it comes to the spin cycle the drum is still 1/4 full of water and although the machine sounds like it is working the drum itself doesn't move. Do you think it is just a drainage problem and if so is it simple to clear as I think i've lost the instuction manual.
Yes, it sounds like it is not draining properly. I'm not familiar with your model but on most Hotpoints you can drain the water out by gravity if you put the outlet hose into a bucket at floor level. Once empty you can check for an obstruction in the pump or associated hoses. You can also check if it spins OK when the water is out of the machine.
