hotpoint dishwasher playing up

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius super plus DF 22 dishwasher which has developed a very frustrating fault. Quite often it will not complete the washing cycle and so ends up still full of water. Any idear what might be wrong?, I have heard that it might be a faulty float valve . Thanks Pitza.
