Hi, I recently bought a second hand fridge freezer and carefully brought it home in a van.
We noticed it started making loud noises once or twice a day, these are incredibly loud tapping or buzzing sounds followed by the freezer defrosting sounds I’m guessing (like ice cracking) and these I know are normal.

It doesn’t have an ice maker so we can exclude that but the sounds seem to be coming from the freezer. The sound doesn’t go away by unplugging it or opening/shutting doors and it seems to get increasingly louder until it slowly quiets down.

It’s definitely a fault of some sort and the seller swears it didn’t make that noise before so I’m guessing somewhere in the transportation something must’ve happened.

Any guesses or tips are more than welcome, I miss my regular sleeping pattern lost thanks to this situation.

It's a bit obvious why the seller sold it, he/she will be enjoying a new one from Currys, part funded by selling the old one.

Buyer beware, you've inherited a noise. I suggest a fridge freezer repairer or ear plugs or buy a new one.

A repairer would normally start looking at the compressor and fan.

That suggests the noise source is not the fan or compressor. Perhaps just ice expansion/contraction produced? Ours sometimes makes quite loud cracking noises due to expansion/contraction, but not so often now as when the fridge/freezer was brand new.

Any chance of a video of the noise you describe?

Can I assume it wasn't shown plugged in when you bought it?
