Hotpoint integrated freezer hz141 - thermal cut out?

This is 4.5 years old. Its cuts out and restarts every few minutes. Does that sound like the thermal cut out?

Is 4.5 years about right for a modern appliance. How do I fix it - or am I a victim of today's throw away system?

First step is to completely defrost, if that does not cure the problem then possibly a new thermostat.

Have defrosted it and emptied it. Still does exactly the same - just runs for a couple of minutes then switches off, then starts up again.

Is a new thermostat a diy job? I'll have a go at most things but don't know much about freezers.

Quite often, if you look at it & can work out how to do it then yes, if not?
