Hotpoint m/c hard water scale

I have a hotpoint washing machine and the problem is that I keep on getting what looks like hard water scale being lef on the clothes. Can anyone please advise what I can use to get rid of the hard water scale. Additionally if the machine is run on any cycle say without clothes there tends to be a large amounts of soap suds being generated without the addition of any soap.
If any one has any ideas then please advise.

How did you resolve this - I have the same problem (just arisen) funily enough also with a Hotpoint.
