Hi all,

Wondering whether anyone has any ideas.

I have a Hotpoint top loader washer which has started intermittently dropping the belt. Had the machine for a few months and it's happened 3 or 4 times now. Every time the main centre bolt which holds the pulley for the belt to move around has been very loose. Each time I re-seat the belt and tighten the bolt.

I can't understand why the bolt keeps getting slack. The belt also looks like it's too small for the spline but I may be wrong. Model number is WMTF722UUKN

See attached photo for reference. It was a private sale so no warranty but I haven't changed any parts.

It was a private sale. Called Hotpoint but they don't want to know unless I pay for one of their engineers to come out.

Ok, the belt may have stretched and you could also use some thread lock on the bolt as you tighten it up. Leave it to go off properly say at least 24 hours.
Something like this

Make sure the drum is secure and not loose anywhere else.

Ok thanks. The belt is tight to get back on (I have to turn the pulley around with the belt started to get it on). So I'd be surprised if that's stretched but could be wrong.
Wasn't sure about loctite as I couldn't see any remnants on the bolt and didn't want to cause any issues. Will give that a go. Cheers.

Change the nut for a nyloc nut then tighten the belt before locking up the drive as you would with the fanbelt on a car.

Alternatively you can use a longer bolt and two nuts; tighten the first then using a spanner to hold it tighten the second nut against the first

You just need locking fluid and do it up really tight with the right torx drive.
The bolt as a spare part comes with a coating of locking compound.
