Hotpoint washer/dryer not spinning - wife nagging !

We have a Hotpoint washer - dryer and it fills with water, empties water but does not rotate the drum, I can hear the timer clicking. Looked on the forum and found this type of problem is mainly down to worn brushes, so I changed those (and they were badly worn) but it still does not work.

Any ideas what to look at next as I am getting considerable ear ache because apparently a washing machine is a necessity.

Did you remember to bend over the tiny brass tags to release the new brushes?

I did that and the bushes moved freely, however I have stopped the nagging and bought her a new one.

It was 5 years old and has had a lot of use so maybe it was ready for a change. Come to think of it I have been with my wife five years, maybe I should change her.
