HELP!

We've got a Hotpoint WMT03 which has worked fine 'till now, but it's started throwing the circuit breaker (RCD) when it's on any program except 'rinse/spin'. :(

Has anyone encountered anything similar, or knows of a fix?

Many thanks in advance!

Ron

Does this only happen on the circuit when this appliance is on.
Try unplugging every other electric item on circuit, then run the appliance and see if it still happens.
Check for damage to flex and plug top and water ingress, you have an earth leakage that is tripping the RCD. It sounds very much like the appliance but the above steps will confirm it.

Hi There,

Many thanks - I've tried as you suggested - certain it's the appliance.

Looked inside, couldn't see any water/damp anywhere.

Haven't got a 13 amp plub to hand - I'll try changing it in the morning.

BTW - we also tried running an extension to another socket to eleminate te wall socket - same result.

Thanks again,

Kindest Regards,

ROn

You might have a heater or motor fault. Unplug heater wires and run a wash see what happens. Don't forget to tape wires over to shop them touching and blowing. Heater found at the rear remove White cover.

Hi folks,

Many thanks - I'll try the latest first thing tomorrow.

This is the first time I've ever used a forum for anything, but I'm totally blown away with the help!

Guess I'll have to stick with this one and see if there's ever a chance I can help.

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow....

Good luck Ron,
the site is very informative, some great knowledge all over the place, feel free to join in any time you wish.
A big welcome to the site from me, hope you enjoy it!

Normally the main motor would trip an RCD, but you say that a spin doesn't cause a trip, so the heater sounds faulty.

When the machine is at full spin, and with age/design faults, bits become detached. And in this case sounds like the heater is shorting out.
