Hi Guys,

Wonder if any of you would be able to offer me some ideas as to why my Hotpoint washing machine isn't working? When I put it on a cycle everything seems fine except the drum does not rotate (I know this is a major defect!!!!). Instead it just rocks backwards and forwards, almost as if it just doesn't have the energy to do the complete 360° turn.

Is it possible that he belt is just a little too slack or could it be something more deep routed. Do any of you know any ways I can check this?

Edward

its either the belt or motor brushes, i would check the belt first

Thanks Breezer.

Can you confirm what I should check for when looking at the belt? Is it wear, a loose belt or both?

hello

check motor brushes .. fixed similar problem on Hotpoint.

The brushes where cheaper than belt ( don't know about yours sorry).

You have to open it to see whats wrong ie belt or brushes .

Uncle breezer will correct me if i am wrong ;)

belt is cheaper to fix (if it is slack) you dont adjust the belt, you tighten the motor.

the motor is on a pivot and "slide*" you pull the motor up and tighten it

* cant think of right word, but it looks like a piece of metal that has the centre removed for a few inches
