Hotpoint WT960 Fails to Start

I have a Hotpoint WT960 that sometimes fails to start. Close the door, select the program, hit start, the door locks and then it just sits there. I have to cancel, and then try again. Is the door switch a likely candidate for the fault?

Thanks. But the first thing it normally does is open the water valve, so why would the motor brushes affect it?

Cos the neutral supply runs thou the brushes. If very low it breaks the contact. Also poss full of carbon dust.

Makes sense. I understand this model can have one of two different motors. Is there anyway to determine which one from the serial number (or any other means)?
