Hi all,

I've just removed a false chimney breast with a view to rebuilding as a new media wall. There was obviously originally a full breeze block fireplace that has been chipped back to allow for an in wall gas fire in the old false breast I just removed.

At one point of the old breeze block fireplace they've got a bit enthusiastic and removed block that was supporting a joist. Probably been like this for 10+ years. The other joists are still supported either into the wall or onto breeze blocks left from the original fireplace.

How am I best remedying this? A couple of bricks mortared in place with a bit of slate forced over the top (along the lines of the attached pic)? Some sort of hanger?

Many thanks in advance.

Is the joist pocketed into the block work or just flush to the face of it it's hard to tell.

Either bricks or a cut block as you suggest should work fine
