How can I replace a leaky flexi tail going to an expansion vessel?

Hi,

I need to replace a flexi tail that is going to a Varem Extravarem 25L expansion vessel. It's leaking - not from the thread of the nut, but where the tail goes into the nut.

Is this something that I might be able to do as a competent DIY'er, albeit with limited knowledge of heating systems?

I realise I've not given enough info here, but don't know what info is needed, so please ask questions and I'll research and reply.

I've attached pictures of the flexi tail at both ends, and the label on the expansion vessel.

(Don't worry about the exposed electric cable around all that water - it's not live! )

You cant legally do anything with that, you need a qualification to carry out any work on that called G3

Ah! OK. Well at least that's clarified the course of action. Thanks for the quick response.

Is there anything I can do to stem the leak in the meantime? E.g. turn the heating off/isolate that tank/etc?

is that vessel just laying on the floor ?

Sort of. It does have a bracket, but it's easy to slide on and off the screws. Kinda like those brackets on the back of pictures or mirrors, where the screw head goes through a hole and then the bracket slides down slightly so the screw head keeps the mirror on the wall.

Such brackets work best when vertical - but this is horizontal.

Is this a botch job?

I haven't got a spanner to it, because I didn't want to mess around with stuff I didn't know about.

By looking at it, I can see that the water is leaking out of the bit where the flexitail goes into the nut, rather than from where the nut screws onto the expansion vessel. Could that be a symptom of the nut not being tight enough?

Yes. There is a rubber sealing washer inside the nut which seals onto the end of the threaded shank of the expansion vessel. Although it looks as if someone has been putting PTFE tape on it, which is pointless.

I'd get you unvented system serviced, as part of that the engineer will sort that out.
