How Do I Make A 4"X4" Wood Post Have A Recessed Pa

I am putting up a fence using 4"X4" wooden posts. I would like to design a recessed panel 'look' on two sides of the posts. I have seen this design used by shops that make posts for lamp posts and fences. Do I use a router or do I use a board attached to the post with the board routed out or framed with moulding?

Run it on a saw bench the right a few time then chop it out with a chisel or if you have heard about a wobble saw blade which cut out a slot in one go.
