How do you align floor and wall tiles grout lines?

Hi All.

Tackling a big tiling project in my bathroom.

I am using the same tiles on the wall and floor, what is the best way of aligning them? Would brick tiling be better for this? I have noticed a few pictures on the internet and for brick tiling they have simply done the floor tiles in the other direction.

Tricky project, lots of things to be taken in consideration that can hinder your results. To get tile spaces to match you exactly, all floors and walls will ideally need to square/symmetrical to each other or the task can be quite laborious and results not great!

You need plan your tiling area both floor and walls, marking out a central starting point to either full or mid-tile. Once you have done that you can decide on a starting point. I would wall tile first.
It is tricky to do and you may not be successful. I personally although not a quitter, would rethink and change this ideal.

I know this sounds obvious but whatever spacing you have on the floor ie 4mm/6mm etc would have to be used for the walls too. Would that look ok?

Yes they are 60 x 30 so i think they would look fine with 4mm spacers

I think i am going to brick tile the walls then brick tile the floor aligning the floor tiles with the far back wall (The wall with the show tray and bath touching it). Does that sound like the best idea? I am planning to half tile the majority of the room with full tiling in the shower.

Which wall would you start the tiles on?

I'd use 2/3mm spacers. 4mm will look huge on the walls and 3mm might look a bit big also.

Start by marking the tile lines on the floor and walls using a pencil / chalk until you have it all lined up - remember that you have to centre windows and not be left with slithers on walls or floor at doors / bath / corners etc.

Take your time marking it out & don't rush to start laying tiles - you can rub out pencil / chalk & redo until it looks okay but you're committed once you lay the first tile.
