I know that the only real way to stop damp on interior walls is to stop the source, but is there a way of masking damp patches until major exterior work is done. In the past I would paint walls with sbr sand and cement slurry, and then plaster or dot and dab. I now know that this method doesn't work. Baton and board with polythene membrane works but steals 3-4cm of the room.
It would be great to know a better method, any help appreciated. Thanks.

I think you have already answered your question, don't hide it solve it.
Not that helpful I know, but leaving it will only create increased problems later on.

I totally agree, but when it's not possable to solve the problem immediately I hoped there would be a short term way of putting the customers mind at ease.

I agree that the damp problems need to be solved first. As you’ve discovered, anything you do with Gypsum as a temporary measure won’t last & will fail or have to come off again before too long & the mess that’s likely to be behind there will probably make your customer even more apprehensive rather than put their mind at ease.
