How do you paint Wicker / Rattan / Cane furniture

I have a couple of bedside cabinets I'd like to paint white, they are in natural state - well a coating of varnish probably when made.

Frame is cane and the rest is wicker or rattan - not sure which.

you can spray it. Difficult otherwise.
