How easy is fitting plastic fascia’s?

Evenin all,

I have relatively good diy skills, is this a job I could undertake please? Are there any step by step guides? Can they be put over flaking wood or does the wood need treating 1st?

any tips would be welcome please? Also good places to buy it all from please?

If the fascia is level you and angle the gutter by measuring off the fascia.

When fitting a certain brand of fascia cap (Freefoam) we would use the protective wrapper wording as our nail guide in order to distance the fixings up evenly and in a straight line. Once struck through the fascia, we would then peel the film back before striking the nails home.

The one we use now has a blank film.

On my single storey extension, I toook advantage of needing a new flat roof to switch to pvc and replaced the timber. I screwed it on using white capped stainless screws. I refitted the gutters after

The garage also has a side that's at single storey height.
I covered the existing timber, which wasn't rotten, with a upvc cladding that was made for the task.

20 years later all are ok

Hi Con1, be very careful. Guttering needs to be released. Your fascia capping comes in different sizes , the soffits are vented and you need corners ,connectors and help.

If the existing is sound then you can overclad it. If not you can remove and replace with uPVC. The over cladding is 10mm thick and the fascia is 16mm - the soffit for both is 10mm. I use freefoam for mine. They come in 5m lengths and various widths. The soffit board is flat (I think you can get a vented one) and the fascia has a return to overlap the soffit. You'll need some corner trim and some fascia trim if you need to "join" boards. If you buy a long enough fascia trim you can use a straight offcut to do any soffit joins and the mitre/butt joint at the corner. Colour matched polytop nails/pins - as they're quite expensive if you can manage to do the whole job with one size (65mm) it will save you a bit. Super glue and activator to stick the trims on - but you might manage to nail them if there's any timber behind. If overcladding try and fix through to rafters rather than the old fascia.
I got my stuff from Fascias.com - not an advert but I was happy with the service and quick delivery and they're still open at the moment - being a trade place and long lengths delivery quite expensive so make sure you order everything you need in one go. Don't know if they do guttering but you can get from Wickes, eaves trays from Toolstation etc. If you plan carefully you can use the same screws that fix the gutter brackets to secure the top of the fascia -saves a few nails.

What are the sizes of the facia and soffit?

Hi mate,

the facia is 200mm and the underneath is approx 230 as some of it is laying on top of the brickwork, see picture.

Vented soffit 225 mm fascia 200 mm they come in 5 m lengths then pins, silicone, corners and connectors pick some cif creme cleaner up and clean existing gutters it will look mint. Shouldn’t be more than £120.00
