Hello

Had a leak in the bathroom, first time in 17 years. Was the waste from bath (40mm pipe with boss type connector thing on it) had popped out.

No idea why but I have pushed it back in, however how far should it go into the soil pipe? I had to pull down the ceiling to do this, and now drying floors and walls for a few weeks so don't want it to rehappen.

Maybe I could use some spray foam round the pushed in fitting to ensure no chance it ever pops out again?

As far as the boss adapter internal stop, unfortunately we cannot see what type of adapter is in there. The rubber push in adapter are the worst for popping out when they age, a little silicone adhesive (not sealant) can usually sort that out

Ok thanks. You probably think I am being too nervous, but asked a plumber to come round Friday as directly below that hole is where we keep normally family photo albums (moved now), saved the carpet as the bath of water luckily went down outside of soil pipe and down.

Can you secure the waste pipe with brackets to ensure it can't move laterally out of the boss ?

I don't think so, I think best bet is I have some spare plasterboard spray foam, will go round it with that, 20mins later won't ever come out without a utility knife. Ugly yes, but it's hidden under a floor board. (Will do this after the silicon adhesive on the boss fitting.)
