How many 8x4 sheets can fit in a standard builder's skip?

We're preparing to rip off ~80m2 of shingled ply roofing which I believe to be 30 full sheets worth originally.
Is that going to fit in a single 8m3 skip? Plan is to get it off in the original sheets as far as possible.

Well assuming the sheets are 18mm thick then 30 sheets would have a total volume of about 1.6m3 but obviously that's in a nice neat pile.

I don't know the dimensions of a skip but presumabing you can fit a full board flat inside(?) then even if they're 40mm with the shingles that's a stack 1.2m high which is fine. If a sheet won't sit flat it's more work but if every sheet was cut in half and stacked like a box of after-8 mints, you could presumably get loads.

I'm sure it won't be that tidy but I should have a lot of space to play with - thanks for the mental prompting :)

That doesn't give the internal dimensions... the width and height are nearly all usable space (knock off maybe 20cm) but 3.65m is far longer than the flat bottom part. Any idea, it must be close to 2.4m and I wouldn't be surprised if skips were built around 8x4'?

But worst case, I can clearly fit a half-sheet vertically so it seems I clearly have enough room as long as things are put in at all sensibly. My local skip place just confirmed they will do a 12yd for not much more so I've got to go measure if it will fit, might do that as there's always crap lying around and the 8T weight limit is in no danger.

I don't understand the issue, you just cut them down a bit to fit in the skip. Literally 5 seconds with a circular saw.

They're covered in bitumen shingles which isn't ideal, but I didn't say it was an issue to cut them - I just want to know if I will need to or not. If I can dump them in a nice stack this will save far more than 5s a piece when I'm working alone

Ring up a skip hire co and ask them the internal measurements of their skips.

How rotten are they? Might be able to give them away for free, even sell them?

Would be ideal for someone building a rough shed, or someone who uses machines, to put down as ground mats

When they're in the skip just light them, then you can fill it up with stuff that doesnt burn.

we did this once, at one point the skip was glowing red, and when it all went out it was black, charred and more of a round bucket shape. we had to get a bloke with a jcb to batter in back into a more skip like shape object. We were worried we might have to buy them a new skip

The funny thing was, when the driver arrived to uplift it, he said nothing, not even could you be a bit more careful with the new one he dropped off
