Hi,

I'm just in the middle of repainting the woodwork in my house and have discovered this wonderful paint called satinwood :D

Anyway, I am just wondering how many coats is normal over white gloss with brilliant white satinwood (Dulux Trade). I have followed the usual prep of sanding down, cleaning etc and TBH I can't notice any difference between the doors/skirting where I have done 2 coats and those with 1. Is it a question of longevity/durability as opposed to asthetics, or do I simply not need 2 coats when there is no real colout change ?

Thanks

Ben

Theoretically, one coat is enough, providing it has been given a good key and has covered well. Two coats does give a better build up of the paint which makes it harder wearing, and usually gives a smoother, more even finish.
I always feel two coats gives a better, longer lasting finish on top of gloss but have often only used one.
If it looks good and you are happy it is solid enough stick with one coat. :)

On this, I've read in other posts a light wet rub with wet and dry is suggested between coats. Would 120 grit be ok?
