Hi all did a search for the answer but can anyone elp me calculate the following.
I need just under a a meter, 0.9 of ballast how many jumbo bags of ballast would that be from selco, please, I have ordered 2
The sales guy in Travis once told me bulk bags are measured by weight, which means you get more material in the summer whens its dry compared to the winter when it could be soaking wet.
Not an answer to the above, just an aside
In general ballast is about 1750kg per metre cube.
0.9 meters is that cubed or square ? if the latter how deep?
if it is cubed and your sizes are correct (.75 x .65 x .55 = 0.27m³) then you will need over 3 bags.
But then dumpy bags are normally one tonne, and ballast is about 1.7 ton per meter cube, so each bag would be 0.6 cubic meters, so yes "Two Bags" sounds about right. You will have half a ton left over for a rainy day.

Bulk bags are in the range of around 700kg up to 900kg. I think Travis Perkins are filled to 850kg, but some builders merchants are 760kg.
In practice I think where quarries pre fill bags they just put a load of bags on the lorry then stickmit on a weighbridge, Im not sure they are individually weighed.
we are quite lucks here in that a local aggregate company will deliver whatever weight you want, so I could order 1.6 ton and have very little left over.
