Hello,

First post here and I am a complete DIY amateur here.

I've dug out a circular area for a patio that I want to use as a seating firepit area. I want to initially put in a Type 1 sub base to a depth of 10cm but I cannot find a calculator for a circular area anywhere as everything seems to be for rectangles or squares.

I was wondering if anyone could either give me a link or maybe just let me know how much I need please.

It's a circle with a diameter of 5.7m to a depth of 10cm.

The area would be 25.5 sq m so use 13 x 2 on your calculator.

Looks like 6 tonnes?

Oh wow ok that's was quick thank you

So second question then, and I know this might sound stupid, but would that mean 6 one ton bulk loads?

Sorry don't want to sound silly but I want to get this right.

It's best to get it loose dropped off the back of a truck if you have somewhere to put it and have good access. Makes shovelling it easier and usually cheaper

The truck would drop 6 tonnes at once.

If buying in bulk bags it would probably be 8 bags as they are under a tonne usually

Bags are delivered on a grab so may be able to get them closer to where they need to be

Ok thanks. Just thinking of cost here but is recycled Type 1 any good? There's a builders yard near me that can do that from 50mm down and I wondered if it was any good.

Recycled is a bit of a lottery. I had some that had a knife and fork in and an old sock :)

For a patio it should be ok though. Are you using a whacker plate to compact it down?
