I've been getting a couple of quotes for a gardener, but they want to charge £12.50 an hour and a minimum of 2 hours.

I live in kent is this average or quite high? I was thinking more like £7 or £8 an hour

would you work for that?

dont forget they are probably self employed and have to pay tax etc

more than reasonable. I dropped the maintenance side of gardening from my company very quickly as people seem to think they can pay peanuts for it. Its hard work, needs skill and knowledge, not to forget the ever increasing costs of insurance, disposal of waste, tools etc etc. You get what you pay for.

Lol no I wouldn't work for that, just thought it was a lot. I dont doubt its hard work, its not being tight just careful :D

for that price you may either be lucky, or get a retired old boy who does half as much as someone you pay more to, or you may get a complete idiot who ruins your favourite roses

That's not alot of money. Stop being a tight a r s e! If you don't like the price, get your gardening gloves on and do it yourself.

Yeah for that money you might get a 70 yr old who does it to make the time go by, but they could always not turn up.

My friend got someone in to tidy up her garden, I saw it and it looked really overgrown, and I hadnt really taken any notice of her back garden before.
anyway, she got this man in to sort it out, and I popped in to see her a few days later, and it looked better and cleaner, but then I noticed her grass area was the size of a postage stamp, and all round it was slabs, and of course the usual bushes and plants, but of course I hadnt noticed them before as the grass had grown over the slabbed area.

I asked her how much she paid, and the bloke charged her £45, and was there 90mins, I said if I had of realised her grass area was that small, I would have done it for her.

He never cut any bushes, or weeded etc, he just strimed the grass, and raked it up, I could not believe she was conned like that, but she was at work, and her neighbour was there to pay the man after he was finished.

In future she is going to do it herself, when she buys a strimmer that works lol

I know a hairdresser that charges more than 10 times mentioned by Spice for 10 minutes work and all he does is put a few pins in ladies hats when they are off to the racing.

By the way, the hairdresser is opposite Harrods, any idea what his rent is....?

:D  :D  :D
