Help please....

I have a pressurised CH & HW system with an expansion tank (Boiler is Potterton Suprima 60), both are in the loft.

PS I had problems with the Suprima locking out 2 years ago and fixed it by re-soldering all the joints on the PCB. It has been working ok to now..

My question is:

My pump is 1 floor below, drawing flow down from above.
Immediately below the pump and before the auto valves, there is a bypass valve bridging across to the return flow to boiler.
Both flow and return are 22mm , the bridge is 15mm.
There is an isolating valve here that is partially open.

Should it be open fully ??

Any advice greatly appreciated...
TIA

It's one of those valves that just has a screw to adjust it..
So vertical is fully open and horizontal it's shut so when you say 1/4 turn what do you mean in that context please....

TBH I was thinking of replacing the existing valve...and your suggestion looks a bit posher.. what's it called please..

An added advantage of replacing the current valve with a abv, is that it would make the system slightly more efficient and possibly quite a bit faster in heating up.
