How Simple is Replacing Bay Window Windowsill? Also, replacement window locks?

I've just bought my first house, I'm in the process of stripping everything out, and I am planning on a few alterations and a complete renovation on a very modest budget.
The house does have double glazing (albeit old), and I wouldn't be able to afford to replace the windows even though I'd like to.

Anyway, the front living room window is a bay window, and the windowsill is a wooden board. I'm under the impression it isn't as simple as replacing a normal window sill would be, I believe the window would need to be taken out. Which, is too much hassle.

It's varnished in a mahogany colour. Which, isn't what I'm wanting at all. Wouldn't mind it either in just white, or oak to match the furniture.

Any advice on what I can do before I plaster the place?

And on a side note, the house came with three window keys, I've tried searching for them online (albeit not very hard), and can't seem to find replacements. They're a little odd sort of keys. Anyway, I figured it might just be easier buying replacement locks. I believe from my little research they're 'cockspur' handles.

I've seen these: http://www.handlestore.com/w18-non-...j5eILjOZI8aAoRrEALw_wcB#83=113&141=884&142=25

But, the windows I have seem a little different, they sort of have a notch for the handle to catch on to. Here's a picture from the windows at my place:
