Before the memory of it fades, would all those who object to the removal of the thread about "how many lebanese will enter the UK" please write to admin about it?

Whether you agree with my position on the topic itself or not, do you agree that it should not have been debated, and that your views, whatever they were, were not fit for a family forum?

A difficult one, I'm in two minds about this although I only saw the picture at the beginning of your post and didn't see what happened after that. I don't really want children looking at these photo,it's better to write it as most children couldn't or wouldn't understand it. I know they got to face up to it sometime in life not neccessary at the early age. You often see on the news warning of the war video reports which may offend you. Where do you draw the line, it's a difficult one. I was very young when I founded my dad who died on the floor & it frightened me for a long time and when I saw the picture, it bought it all back. I understand you're trying to the message across, maybe it was a bit too powerful!

the picture was shocking but that is the reality of war and most if not all of us know how bad it is

but i have had posts taken out that had very little shock value in them so best not dwell on it BAS

its an open forum so spose its not the place for that type of photo

are links to these photos acceptable ? MOD can you enlighten us

Still have good memories of the Red Lebanese that used to enter my bloodstream in the 70`s man.

What are you in two minds about?

The posting of that photo, which was what the ensuing debate was about, or the removal of the debate itself?

I don't really want children looking at these photo,it's better to write it as most children couldn't or wouldn't understand it. I know they got to face up to it sometime in life not necessary at the early age. You often see on the news warning of the war video reports which may offend you. That is an opinion shared by others, and also not shared by others.

What is at stake is should we have been allowed to discuss it?

Reality. Most of us face it every day in one form or the other-with no choice-it is just there.

This is a family forum and anyone has access. There should be choices. I dont believe it should be here (personal opinion) A lot of pics on here...when you first open a thread to read....the pic displays automatically and sometimes you dont expect it...

Surprises (in general) are highly over rated

The photo and I can't comment about the rest as I didn't see it

I don't know, it's difficult to know when we crossed the line. At what level is the line? The mods have to start somewhere!

I've Emailed Admin to express my view.

As I said at the time, I think the picture of the little girl was acceptable as reply but on the other hand I did agree with the decision to delete the entire thread. IMO it would have made more sense to delete the thread at the time the picture was removed or from the very outset.

I could have played devils advocate and posted a similar picture of a little girl who was killed by a car/suicide bomb and where would that have taken the debate?

One of the things that I enjoy most about this part of the site is the general banter with other trades and like-minded people. I don’t think this is the right place for very heavy political or religious debates; it just brings out the worst in some people.

The people that make “racist ” and other hateful comments in here are entitled to their views but as in life they are still a tiny minority so I can’t understand why you get so wound up? Your TV must have shatterproof glass if that’s how you react every time you see or hear something that you dislike or don’t agree with.

You have gained respect in this forum based on your technical knowledge and your no nonsense/humorous approach but I feel that sometimes you get suckered in and lower yourself

Anyway, that’s only my opinion and it worth exactly how much you paid for it

Let's put this in a nutshell shall we?

It is OK to talk about sex in a forum as young children will not understand it.

It is NOT OK to post pornographic pictures that children will see.

It is OK to talk about war in a forum as young children will not understand it.

It is NOT OK to post pictures of war (dead people) in a forum that children can access.

Simple Innit?

unless of course your children are not illiterate!...

maybe the mods should spell out how young is 'young'!...because although I can see both sides of the 'image argument', it's 'small change' compared with a lot of the rhetoric on various other controversial topics posted here!

Modertaor 4

Please see the note on the memories thread it spells it all out quite clearly.
