We had an internal wall taken down and an RSJ added. I'm now fitting a sliding door over this opening and wondering how best to attach the sliding door hardware to the wall in front of the steel beam. Unfortunately I didn't see how they created the timber boxing before attaching plasterboard, only the finished result - see photos below of before and after. I don't think they drilled the beam but don't know for sure. Possibly just vertical noggins wedged into the beam.
Probably going to get a sliding door track which has L brackets to support it from above - 4 screws each. Not built the door yet but I'd like the track to be over engineered and be very sure it will take whatever weight the door ends up being.

Won't that beam be too high to locate the sliding track?

Regardless, there is evidence the beam has been boxed out (timber beneath) as the plasterboards have been screw fixed all round.

Too high how? It's at the top of the wall opening and the sliding door will sit on this side of the wall so the track needs secured along the wall above the opening.

Yes, there's timber beneath but not sure how securely that timber is attached to the beam. Do you think it's safe to just screw into the timber?

Door = 1981mm.
Beam = 2200mm?
Gotcha. The opening is approx 1.8m wide and 2.7m high and I'm custom making the door.

Currently thinking to skip the L brackets and instead screw a 50mm x 75mm wooden strip along the wall (orange piece) - as many screws as required and then also just for added security, add some adhesive before attaching it. Should make it fairly sturdy then screw the track (green) to the underside of it and use it to mount the architrave (blue).

use a magnet to locate a screw under the plaster and drill in next to it til you hit the beam web, to gauge how much depth you have for fastening screws when attaching your orange part
