How to Block off Chimney Breast Opening for Feature Fireplace

We've taken our Chimney back to the Builder's opening and have booked the plasterer to come out to plaster a new feature fireplace (without a fire).

When we close the top hole do we need to use anything more substantial than plaster board? We were conscious about damp caused from the opening.
