Hi all,

Would you know how to proceed in here? I have some old wood "lintel/brace" that needs repointing and I am unsure how to bond it to the surrounding brick. I'm worried that using sand and cement will cause the wood to rot in the long run.

What would use?

Thanks!!

Is it going to be plastered, if so just nail some expanding metal to it and plaster over the whole section. Unless the lintel is so loose you can move it by hand then there is no need to worry about it.

How old is the house? Is this an old internal partition wall, of studwork filled in with bricks, or is it a blocked up window or something?

If the other side if the wall is exposed to the weather there is more risk of damp.

1930's, this is internal partition wall and to the right is external cavity wall. I want to make sure the wood still serves the purpose which I'm assuming is attaching the internal wall to the external one hence the question about what to repoint it with without affecting the wood in the long term.

I don't think that the wood holds the walls together

it used to be a common way of cheaply building internal partition walls.

they are quite good at blocking noise
