How to connect a lamp

Iv bought one from homebase as well and confused about the wiring…..does the black wire stay in with the blue one when I connect it ? ( this is how it came )

Your light should be supplied with wiring instructions. You would not normally be expected to remove or move any wires that the manufacturer has installed. Your light is expecting you to connect a Live to the empty terminal which is marked L and a Neutral to the empty terminal which is marked N. It might also require an Earth to be connected to another terminal which is not shown in your photo.
 
Should I assume this has a PIR sensor or switch or something similar?

Thanks but I’m a complete novice and don’t understand the diagram above do I basically take the wires from the old light and put into the live and neutral on the unit above ? ( please don’t judge me I’m learning )

Yes that is correctred or brown into L & black or blue into N. If you have an earth wire it will be made safe and not connected to anything unless there is an earth terminal not shown in your pic.
