Hi,
I've moved into a house where I've a cistern that looks like the attached pic.

Issues:
1. Both half-flush and full-flush are a tad hard to press.

2. The half-flush was not working so I extended the plastic leg inside but it used to slip upon pressing. So I added some tape to add to its strength and now it works as Full-Fush before it slips again. Once it slips, it does not do anything at all.

3. The full-flush is also slipping once in a while so I've to keep extending the plastic but its working as half-flush (80% tank water) mostly. We've to keep it pressed to allow full-flush (100% tank water).

I removed the flush valve recently to clean the siphon base and it has a label called "Fastpart". I think its also called "Ideal Standard Dual Flush".

Do I need a new valve or just dual flush button? How does the dual-flush work here, as there is only 1 lever on the flush valve that is getting pressed?

Hold button down for short flush I think.
Also one button don't always go all the way in so again half flush.
Not two sure about how they work or if they actually do.

Just a bit naff tbh. Skillbuilder on YouTube covered this and I agree that people just push button without anymore interest. Check it out.

When they play up just replace with a new symphon which is easy enough for a keen DIY person.
I often change both inlet and syphon for years of trouble free flushing. New doughnut and new close couple fixings from DIY store.
Buy branded inlet with brass thread on if your going to do that. Fluidmaster is a good brand.

I agree that replacing the flush system with a syphon system would be a big improvement, both for flushing and because they cannot leak water into the toilet pan. But syphons need a lever at the side of the cistern to raise the diaphragm in the syphon. Modern dual flush systems have only a push button, either on the top of the cistern directly acting on the flush mechanism or connected by a pressure tube to the flush mechanism. You really need a whole new cistern to fit a syphon
