Hi guys,

I just recently moved to a property that I bought. I am having a trouble on heating up my water. I really don't know much about heating system but to heat up the water I have to set it to on, but the issue is it also turns on radiator which I don't want to.

How can I only heat water without the need to turn on radiator too?

thank you.

what colour is your hot-water cylinder? Show us some photos, especially of the pipes and other parts around it, and the boiler.

Have you got a wall thermostat? What is it set to? Show us.

Your timer is an ACL Lifestyle LP111, which has only single-channel timing and is usually installed with a combi boiler. On a combi, the heating does not need to be timed. It only comes on when you turn on a hot tap.

If not a combi, I would guess that your installation is either very old, or very poor

@picasso Hi Yes there is a vales that looks like that next to cylinder. How can switch it? I tried to turn it to hot water but it does not turn.

If its jammed it will have to be replaced, it might be worth upgrading to a three port valve.

You have a really old vercy inneficient system and the contol of HW and CH is manual, turn that valve to HW only and when you want CH you will have to turn it back manually, you will need to upgrade your control set up if you want to do it by electronic controls

Top of the cylinder has no immersion heater - but doesn't seem to have a blanking plug there either as all the threads are visible.

@picasso @ianmcd Yeah looks like it is jammed tried turning it to HW but did not move a bit. Will call plumber for help.

Thanks for the help guys.

@flameport Idk really much about it..The house is really old from 1935 so that might be the reason all the system are old. Any idea how much will it cost me to replace all of the system to new ones?

Thank you

I too am puzzled by the missing immersion heater. no doubt the plumber/heating engineer will see what's going on.

There are several cables around the cylinder, but apart from one that seems to go to the hw/ch valve, I can't see what any of them do. I can't see a pump.

The yellow foamed cylinder is what? 1980's? Probably same age as the boiler.

Just had a plumber visit and he gave me a quote of £2.5k for a Worcester Bosch 30i, wireless thermostat and digital timer and remove cylinder and water tank. Is it a good deal?

Thanks

Is it what you want, more importantly? You could just upgrade the existing heating controls to something that is actually controllable, which would cost you around £500. Did he suggest that, or was he just interested in selling you a new boiler? If he was just interested in selling you a new boiler, avoid him - he's more interested in his profits than your needs
