Hi,

I've moved into a new home but the top room doesn't have a radiator and gets very, very cold!

Don't want to settle for a portable convection heater... how would I go about installing a radiator on the outer wall which is connected to the existing central heating system? What info do I need to know or find out? All the room downstairs have radiators.

Also, two of the radiators need bleeding I think as they are colder at the top. But they don't have any valves at the top or on the back as far as I can see, where I can use a bleed key. How would I bleed these radiators?

I'd appreciate any advice anyone can give - thanks in advance for all your time and help!

I'm in the same boat as you, wanting to add a rad to an existing CH system.
I don't think it's as easy as it sounds because although fitting the rad and piping it up is straight forward (even though the system will need draining down), I'm guessing that like me, you have a combi boiler, which means that you have to re-presurise the system and I'm not so confident in doing that.

Yeah I have a combi but I've no idea how I'd even start with draining the system down and plumbing it in, let alone re-pressurising it afterwards!

simple facts are if you are not confident in doing it then dont.

your boiler instructions should tell you how to drain it down and repressurise.....ive not looked but the FAQ's may also have some pointers

boiler instructions will rarely contain this info. to repressurise you should be looing for a mesh hose connection from cold mains to ch pipes. usually under combi boilers or next to expansion vessel on sealed system. fill to 1/1.5 bar and all should be well.

and yeah if you dont know how to repressuries your combi, save a lot of tears and get a freindly plumber to fit your rad :D

If it's any consilation I've sussed out the repressurising via the FAQ as the Baxi combi has a filling loop attached to the underside of the boiler with a single tap at the mains water into the boiler.

Moving back to morpheus's original question about the process of adding a rad to the system. The absolute first thing to do is drain the system down, but the process would need explaining even to me nas it's not covered in the FAQ's.
All I can say so far is that a hose needs running from the drain plug on the rads to a sewer or WC, then you can cut in to the pipework to extend to the new rad position without fear of drowning.

Are there any issues that we need to be aware of when draining down, tapping into the pipes for a new rad or bleeding the system?
