My house has a single storey rear extension, built in 9" brick (no cavity walls) with a pitched single slope roof covered with fibre cement slates. It was re-roofed around 2000 and I don't think any form of roof insulation was applied at the time. At the same time the interior ceilings were replaced with new plasterboard.
The roof covers a shower room and utility room. While not especially cold compared to the rest of the house, I would like to improve the insulation, given rising fuel costs. To avoid stripping the roof or cutting into the ceiling, would it be possible to use another method-for example could a few bricks be removed from the gable end wall above ceiling height and loose-fill (granular) insulation be applied somehow?
The roof area is approx 6m x 3m.
